This was me in
the middle of a Boiler Room Event during my time at University…
…Getting up
and close to the DJ set, trying to get a high five off Annie Mac and
horrendously failing! It took a good long 5 minutes until she started
acknowledging me, and by that, I mean laughing at me!
The greatest
thing I like about Boiler Room is the underground vibe you get. You feel like
you’re in a class of your own: nobody outside of these events really knows the
name of the artists you go to see, because you’re that cool. And half of the
time, the location of the event isn’t announced till closer to the date, which
creates a nice suspense to it!
This
particular Boiler Room has left a lasting impression of how well run it was,
from being at the event itself to bringing it exclusively live on the internet!
I want to discover and understand the different types of departments it takes
to create a successful Boiler Room event. I gained the opportunity to get a
taste of what it can be like in Music production through my student Radio. But I
would love to gain more skills on the Social Media/ Marketing side of things
and gain an insight on how to story tell the event throughout the night. I am
also looking to work in the Sports Marketing industry and these invaluable skills
will help me work in a Creative Content role for professional Football Clubs.
So back in
the day when I thought that getting Annie Mac’s attention was the best thing to
do, I did not appreciate or realise everything that goes behind the scenes to
set up Boiler Room! Well I want to change that: Experience working alongside two
giants in the business: Boiler Room and 02 will also enable me to pursue a
career as a night time Radio DJ which I feel has a great collaboration with live
DJ sets in the music industry.
